Programmes

Best crown in town

(Primary school)
The ideal supplement to a visit to the synagogue! Information on the way the Torah is dressed is provided using exhibited objects. There is also a mini Hebrew course and the opportunity for pupils to design a new Torah crown.
Jewish Museum Vienna

Close contact

(Primary school and secondary school up to 12 years)
Here pupils are allowed to do something that is normally strictly forbidden in museums, namely touch the exhibits! Objects hidden underneath a cloth are identified by touch. Are they large, small, hard or soft? All of the objects are connected with Jewish festivals, dietary laws or in general with Jewish traditions. Participants then look for a similar museum object in the showcase — which, of course, may not be touched …
Jewish Museum Vienna

1, 2 or 3?

(Primary school and secondary school up to 12 years)
A programme on Jewish festivals at the Berger showcase on the ground floor and in the Viewable Storage Area. It is based on the question: which objects are always on their own, which in pairs, threes or fours? Participants also learn how to count in Hebrew from 1 to 10.
Jewish Museum Vienna

The aleph beth story

(Primary school and secondary school up to 12 years)
Participants use the Kids Judaica Box exhibition to learn about the Hebrew alphabet. The programme includes details on the history of the letters, a mini Hebrew course, the vowels — and an alphabet story devised and drawn by the pupils, with a picture, comic or drawing for each letter of the alphabet, the result being exhibited in the Museum.
Jewish Museum Vienna

Is it kosher?

(All age groups)
A visit to the Museum on the subject of eating and drinking? Details on the Jewish dietary laws, what is allowed and what is prohibited, how animals are slaughtered and whether there are kosher jelly babies … The programme has different points of emphasis depending on the age group: from kashrut memory and search games or the setting up of a kosher restaurant including the menu.
 L’Chaim and enjoy your food!
Jewish Museum Vienna

From beginning to end

(Age 12+)
The pupils are divided into six groups where they learn about the various stages in life between birth and death. They are called upon to search throughout the Museum for information and objects. Each of the groups then presents its findings.

Jewish festivals

(Age 12+)
This programme can also be booked with worksheets or as a search game. Depending on how the subject is taught or approached, the programme can be reinforcing (with worksheets) or as an introduction to Jewish festivals. Pupils also make use of the Museum infrastructure such as audio guides, information sheets and inventory.

Chag Sameach! Happy Holiday!

(All age groups)
The familiar Jewish holiday special with a new focus: on the basis of the scheme “similar-identical-different”, pupils are called upon to identify all of the objects associated with a particular festival. They are offered humorous aids and will discover that Judaica objects always have a historical or political message as well. Chag Sameach! can be booked in the month when the festival takes place:
October 2008:   Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Succoth
December 2008:   Chanukah
March 2009: Purim
April 2009: Pesach
May 2009: Shavuot
