Book presentation: Stefan Landau: “Mosaisches Mosaik”
“Mosaisches Mosaik” is entertaining, touchingly personal, and humorous. It spans the period from World War I to the present day and, like a mosaic, it is filled with the author’s recollections and stories about his parents, relatives, and others. It tells of the life of Stefan Landau, his happy childhood, war and persecution, liberation, delayed schooling, work, friends, and family. It devotes a lot of space to stories about the last‑mentioned, some humorous and other reflecting the tragedy of the time.
It reports on the twilight of peace (1938–39) and the main events of World War II. It describes the fate of people who survived or escaped from the Nazi killing machinery. Richly illustrated and full of anecdotes, Jewish jokes and pearls of wisdom, it is an extremely readable book that will appeal both to those who lived through these times and to young people today.
