Old & new – Chanukah in the Jewish Museum Vienna

Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, begins this year on November 28 and lasts eight days. It is a joyous festival with candles and songs every evening. Even before Chanukah, children (and adults) can already discover what this festival is about on a guided tour. They will see the special candle holders and find out about the lighting of the candles and the meaning of Chanukah.
The festival recalls events that took place over 2,000 years ago: the victory of a small group of Jews over a powerful army, and a tiny amount of oil that burnt as if by miracle for eight days in the Temple in Jerusalem. Old and new Chanukah menorahs, modern designs and your own creative and imaginative ideas will be used to make greeting cards, with which you can send your Christmas/Chanukah wishes. There will also be a typical Chanukah snack featuring traditional items fried in oil such as potato pancakes or doughnuts. Chanukah sameach, happy Chanukah!
