Museum Judenplatz

Judenplatz – place of remembrance

The memorial to the 65,000 exterminated Austrian Jews was designed by Rachel Whiteread. It is a reinforced concrete cube, whose sides look like the shelves of a library turned inside out. On the plinth surrounding the memorial are the names of the sites where Austrian Jews died during the Nazi regime. The memorial is closely linked with the Shoah information centre set up by the Documentation Archive of Austrian Resistance on the ground floor of the Museum Judenplatz, which contains the names and details of the 65,000 Jews and the circumstances surrounding their persecution and death.
