Museum Judenplatz

Shoah documentation

In the basment of the Museum are computer terminals on which visitors can consult the names of the 65,000 Austrian Jews exterminated by the Nazis. The database contains the names, date of birth, and place and date of death. It was set up by the Documentation Archive of Austrian Resistance on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Science and Research and, in the Jewish tradition, constitutes an electronic memorial book of the dead that will commemorate for ever those who died in the Shoah. It can also be consulted on the website of the Documentation Archive of Austrian Resistance. It is possible in addition to find out about the historical background to this planned genocide. The database and background information complement the Memorial for the Austrian Victims of the Shoah by Rachel Whiteread on the historical Judenplatz in front of the Museum.
