Marriage Contract / Ketubba

Condition:
Parchment is contaminated and severely undulated, with several tears and losses, old patches on rear, color is partially abraded in margins; resulting from a water damage lower part of parchment displays bloated edges, red color partially smudged in lower part and right edge of parchment.

Measures:
Dry cleaning, removal of patches, closure of tears, filling of losses, retouching, straightening out of parchment.

Marriage contract on parchment for Mr. Meshulam, son of Mr. Asher, and Mrs. Bräunlen (?), daughter of Rabbi Itzhak Joseph, issued in Castelfranco (Veneto).
Curved downward and tapered, ornaments in light red and light green watercolor, surrounded with text from Proverbs, contractual text only in upper third. Particularities: besides the two witnesses, the groom has signed as well, God's name appears as Yod-Yod-Vav in the ornamental strip, a to date unknown blazon in lower third with cow and fish, below entry from 1604, which informs that the wife, Bräunlen, has passed away and has been buried [in Padua].
