The new “Verein der Freunde”, founded in 2006, has taken over the support group tradition of the first Jewish Museum. »
The Jewish Museum Vienna was founded – or re-established – in 1990. Almost 100 years earlier, in 1895, a private association in Vienna had set up the first Jewish museum in the world, which was forced to close in 1938 by the Nazis. The new Circle of Friends established in February 2006 continues the tradition of the association that sponsored the first Jewish museum. »
