The Circle of Friends

Torah Plate, Vienna 1906, JMW Inv. No. 16848, Picture: JMW More than one hundred years ago, in 1895, a private society opened the world’s first Jewish museum in Vienna. The magnificent collection, which was built up systematically with the commitment of all the individual members before 1938, is still the foundation of the unique collection in the Jewish Museum Vienna, despite it being partly destroyed by the National Socialists. The new Circle of Friends established in February 2006 continues the tradition of the association that sponsored the first Jewish museum.
