„Masel tov – The Jewish Museum Vienna“
A production by RAUM.FILM Filmproduktion for ORF
This November the Jewish Museum Vienna celebrates two anniversaries. It was (re )established 25 years ago, and it moved to Palais Eskeles in Dorotheergasse 20 years ago. The ORF-III documentary relates the checkered history of the Museum and offers an insight into the story of Jewish museums in Vienna, which reflects the history of the Jews in the city themselves. It follows the museum team as it prepares for the new permanent exhibition and offers answers to a number of questions: Why did a group of Jewish intellectuals establish the first Jewish museum in the world in Vienna of all places? Why did the mayor of Vienna take up the idea again 50 years after the brutal extinction of Viennese Jewry and the destruction of the first Jewish museum? And finally, what is the relevance of a Jewish museum in Vienna today?
