Book presentation: Avi Primor "Süss und ehrenvoll"

In his latest novel, Avi Primor tells the story of two young Jewish men and their experiences in World War I. Ludwig, son of a doctor in Frankfurt, can hardly wait to be called up after the outbreak of war, although service at the front means that he will be separated from his beloved Karoline. As a German soldier he finally feels fully accepted and hopes to perform heroic deeds for the fatherland. As for the baker’s son Louis from Bordeaux, his untroubled training as a recruit is rudely interrupted by the war. In spite of his fears, he writes proudly to his father that at the front he can finally repay the French people for everything they have done for him. On the basis of numerous historical documents, Avi Primor has created a novel about first love, the absurdity of war, and the search for identity.

The Israeli diplomat and  journalist Avraham “Avi” Primor (* 1935, Tel Aviv) was Israeli ambassador in Germany from 1993 to 1999 and became publicly known during this time as one of the most important voices of German-Israeli dialog. He is chairman of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations.

The discussion will be presented by News journalist Heinz Sichrovsky.
Tarek Leitner will read extracts from the book.
