Book presentation: Peter Berczeller „Der kleine weiße Mantel“
Vienna-born Peter Berczeller’s love affair with medicine began at the age of three when he was allowed to accompany his father on his rural house calls. His father’s profession became his vocation, not where he was born, however, but of necessity in the USA.
Berczeller has managed to interweave the two strands of the narrative – the story of emigration and that of his career – in a fascinating way. In the forefront, however, is the following question: Through intensive study, the Holocaust has become “understandable” for all of us, but what happened to the people who weren’t killed? Peter Berczeller rescued lives and wrote about it in this book.
