Discussion “Equality in Art? Where Do Female Artists Stand Today?”
One hundred years ago women faced considerable obstacles in every way to be artists: From the formal training, to the membership in the most important artists’ associations and the participation in exhibitions, all the way to reviews in art critiques and the presence on the art market, female artists were systematically disadvantaged. Nonetheless, women demanded their share in the art scene – with different and ultimately non-sustainable success. But what is the situation today? Has equality finally been established in art?
Discussants: Heike Curtze (gallery owner), Olga Kronsteiner (art market specialist), Sabine Plakolm (art historian), Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair (artist)
Presenter: Almuth Spiegler (journalist)
