Moshe Zuckermann: Richard Wagner – Future prospects: attitudes to an annoying genius

Lecture by Moshe Zuckermann

Richard Wagner’s music was highly controversial even during his lifetime, and his work and person still polarize opinions today. This is due first to the fact that the two are difficult to keep apart, but also to the fact that reactions have been repeatedly influenced by historical events that have little to do with him. How will Wagner’s work be accepted in the future? Will Wagner still be called a “German annoyance” in the twenty-first century?

Moshe Zuckermann, born 1949 in Tel Aviv, Sociologist, Professor for History and Philosophy (University Tel Aviv).
