Yiddish in Viennese
What a Bahöö! My best Haberer! Are they completely meschugge now? It’s a shame that the Beisln are closed!
From the middle of the 19th century, the Yiddish language found its way into Viennese dialect. On Mondays in a new series “Yiddish/Viennese” on our social media channels, we will present a Viennese word that is actually also a Yiddish word or vice versa.
Subscribe to our social media channels now and take part in the digital language experience!
Do you miss our exhibitions and museum stories?
Theodor Herzl’s bicycle, “Victoria Blitz,” is wondering what Viennese are doing in China. Do you know how to play Mahjong? Where did Friedrich Kantor get his stage name “Torberg” from? Why are there four receptacles in the museum collection for accepting donations for the impoverished and for poor brides?
We introduce objects on our museum blog, tell background stories about the exhibitions or let the objects themselves speak.
