The life of Baroness Betty Lambert, who came from the Lambert banking family of Brussels and the Paris Rothschild dynasty, divorced von Bonstetten, divorced von Goldschmidt-Rothschild, reflects the history of the twentieth century. After the First World War, the Jewish noblewoman fled her arranged first marriage, moving from Frankfurt on Main to Switzerland, and lived for decades at the Bonstettengut Manor in Thun/Gwatt. Holding court there, she received the “Who’s Who” of the first half of the twentieth century, including Marc Chagall, Greta Garbo, Carl Zuckmayer, Alexander von Stauffenberg and US secret service chief Allen Welsh Dulles. But she also helped persecuted people fleeing National Socialism, acted as an informal contact point for intelligence services and was critically monitored by the Swiss secret service.

Franziska Streun, born in 1963, lives in Thun, Switzerland, is a freelance author, runs writing workshops and works as a journalist and editor at the Thuner Tagblatt. She regularly writes portraits, stories and reports about extraordinary people. In 2021, she was awarded the Literature Prize by the City of Thun.
