The current temporary exhibition, “Espresso at last! The Café Arabia am Kohlmarkt” is dedicated to the Café Arabia, designed by Oskar Haerdtl as a total work of art and opened in 1951 on Kohlmarkt in Vienna, which imported the Italian espresso culture into the traditional coffee-making metropolis. In 1938, the company was “Aryanized,” returned to its rightful owner after the Second World War and developed into one of the largest Austrian coffee brands. In 1999, the Café Arabia closed forever and nothing of the pioneering architecture remains.
