Last Call: Black Jews, White Jews? On Skin Color and Prejudices
by JMW
Only a few days left: the exhibition “Black Jews, White Jews? On Skin Color and Prejudices” is coming to an end. It addresses a question that is as simple as it is complex: what skin color do Jewish people have, and who actually decides that?
Historical and contemporary objects show how attributions of skin color have shaped identity, exclusion, and self-perception—and continue to do so today. Especially against the backdrop of current debates on racism and antisemitism, the exhibition opens up new perspectives on belonging and external perception.
To conclude, we invite you to two special events:
Happy Friday: Director’s Tour
24 April 2026, 3:00 pm
Shortly before the end of the exhibition, Director Barbara Staudinger offers personal insights into the show. Which objects are particularly meaningful to her? Which perspectives come as a surprise? A rare opportunity to experience the exhibition from a very individual point of view.
Participation is free of charge, limited number of places, allocation on a first come, first served basis.
Finissage / Final Tour
26 April 2026, 2:00 pm
During the final guided tour, the central question is once again in focus: are Jews white, non-white, or Black? The exhibition shows how differently the answers can be—and how strongly they depend on historical, social, and political contexts. A shared final look at an exhibition that encourages reflection and opens up discussion.
